Pharmaceutical May Cause Extinction of Three Species--
Major Threat to Wildlife Discovered


A major discovery documenting a pharmaceutical as threatening the extinction of three species will be published in the journal NatureThe paper links the veterinary use of “diclofenac” with the catastrophic crash of three species of raptors.  The discovery is the result of a three-year effort by an international team of scientists.  The team was assembled and led by The Peregrine Fund and included members from Washington State University, The Ornithological Society of Pakistan, and Bird Conservation Nepal.

More California Condors Transferred to Vermilion Cliffs in Arizona


Arizona’s population of California Condors increased on December 19 when ten condors were transported to the release site in the Bureau of Land Management’s Vermilion Cliffs National Monument.  All of the young condors hatched this year at The Peregrine Fund's World Center for Birds of Prey and will be released to the wild during 2004.
