Using the Search Form

Reference Web Poster Search Engine
The Peregrine Fund Library databases are managed in-house using the bibliographic reference software, ProCite.   These reference are accessible through a search engine, Reference Web Poster, which is designed to search and export references from ProCite databases into your own reference software.  If you are using Reference Manager, ProCite or EndNote, you can search The Peregrine Fund Library and import references directly into your own reference database or save them as text files to be imported into the software of your choice.

These databases work best if they are searched through Internet Explorer.  Although we have attempted to provide sufficient information in the initial search results list for citations, we recommend viewing the full record for the complete record information.  In many cases, we are hampered by the limitations of the Reference Web Poster to ProCite interface.  These databases are constantly evolving and we apologize for any imperfections in advance.  We welcome user comments and suggestions.

Search Instructions
By default, we have set up the search engine to allow users to take advantage of advanced search techniques.  You may find the following instructions useful in helping you to conduct your bibliographic searches:

Search Fields
Enter the text you wish to search in the search field.  Your search can be targeted under five different field themes:  AuthorKeywords; Periodical; Year; and  Title.  In addition to these specific fields, you can search several fields simultaneously by searching All Indexed Fields, which includes Author, Year, Periodical, and Keywords or you can search All Non-Indexed Fields, which includes Title and Notes, which we use for record language.

Single term search Enter the term in the desired search field(s) exactly as it appears in the database.  To search for a term in both Keywords and Title fields, you would need to enter your term into two separate boxes and choose the corresponding field for each box.

Multiple term search:  Any Keywords search for a multiple word string must be entered into the search box with a dash (-) inserted where a space would normally fall.  Example: habitat use enter as habitat-use; Falco deiroleucus enter as Falco-deiroleucus.

Miscellaneous Notes:

Author names with apostrophes can be entered into the search field without changes.  Example: Il'leiv will return results by that author

Words containing diacritic marks must have the marks inserted into the search field using ANSI codes to return accurate results.  A list of the most common codes has been provided.

The Global Raptor Bibliography and Research Library do not have Keywords entered,  but they will be added in the near future so please check back.
